XR Lab

The XR Lab is an applied research laboratory focused on emerging technologies falling under the category of Extended Reality (XR): Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and Mixed Reality (MR). It investigates experiences in immersive and mixed environments and their applications across various professional contexts (including educational and museographic, architectural and urban planning, psychotherapeutic and rehabilitative domains), with particular attention to interactivity and the synergy between performance in the real world and performance in the digital realm.

The lab includes professionals operating within Italy, with whom ongoing collaborations are taking place in the field of education (for instance, the soon-to-be-launched Immersive Art School in Venice, linked to the Venice International Film Festival – Biennale Cinema) and in line with the Third Mission (such as the Filmmaker Festival in Milan).

The XR Lab requires VR, AR, and MR devices, dedicated servers, and software licences for relevant applications.

From a teaching perspective, the XR Lab will also operate in connection with the advanced training course “Extended Bodies”, coordinated by Chiara Cappelletto.
